The band was formed in 1968 and 45 years on is still going strong. The band were winners of the Grade 2 "Champion of Champions" in 1986 and are one of the remaining few Pipe Bands with “Glasgow” in their title.
The band are very passionate and proud of their long standing connection with Glasgow and the Glasgow Skye Association and wear the MacLeod of Skeabost tartan.

The Band is lead by PM Ewan Henderson, who recently took over PM Kenny Macleod, and Leading Drummer Arthur Cook . Arthur, who is a respected RSPBA judge, tutor, and former World Solo Drumming Champion, replaces Jim Whitefield, who held the position for the last seven years. The band currently competes in Grade 2 and in 2016, achieved a prize in every major championship, including 5th place in the Grade Two World Pipe Band Championships with the drum corps becoming Grade Two champion of champions in the same year. It is one of the smartest and most recognisable bands in the pipe band circuit.

The band also have successfully run what has become known to many as “the pre worlds concert” in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Every year for the last 19 years the band have invited top bands from all over the world to come and perform a concert on the Wednesday prior to the World Pipe Band Championships which are held in Glasgow. Check the band's own website for details of this event and other concerts.

At the World Pipe Band Championships in 2017, the band were crowned Grade 2 World Pipe Band Champions. The drum corps also took the Champion of Champions award for the second consecutive year. Below is a video of their winning performance.
